Project Chesapeake is a rescue of 23 adult, former puppy mill dogs, saved in conjunction with one of our local shelter partners. Prior to their arrival, these pups had never lived indoors, never had a family of their own and have never received love & affection. Now, they are safely in foster homes learning what being a family member is like. They arrived is various stages of distress, despair & fear. All are requiring a fully fenced yard given that they cannot be leash walked. As they decompress & become acclimated to their newfound freedom, they will be ready to find their forever homes.
Meet Maverick, a 1.5 year old, 11.5 lb., male Miniature Poodle mix who his foster calls THE CUTEST BOY EVER! He is doing great with potty training and leash walking with a harness – he HATES the collar. Maverick is up to date on shots and will be neutered & microchipped prior to adoption (which should stop his marking). He was very nervous when he arrived but he is finally coming around for petting and attention. Maverick gets car sick, no matter how short the drive. He would prefer a home with another dog. Plus he loves to chew (sticks, nylabones, yak bones) and is learning what toys are and how to play. He is alert and curious, watching your every move.
