Kenny Rogers

Status: Adopted
Size: Medium
Gender: Male
Breed: Border Collie
Color: Brown with white

PLEASE NOTE: Fosters have 14 days to decide if they wish to “foster fail” and adopt their foster dog.

Meet Kenny Rogers! Kenny is a 4-year-old, 55 lb., purebred Border Collie who recently got the chance to leave a puppy mill where he was used as a stud. Kenny has intense prey drive which is right on brand with his breed. A home with no cats, and no small animals including small dogs is necessary. Large dogs, over 50 lbs. are fine!

Kenny needs a job, a task…something. He lived in a barn stall (literally) since he was born. Sadly, only knowing this life of containment is showing as he paces, goes in circles and/or chases his tail. (We see this very often with puppy mill survivors and it’s heartbreaking). He will only thrive if he has a task/job. It’s in his DNA. With humans he is a Velcro dog. A superstar!

There is so much potential here! Finding a home with fenced-in land for him to run and feel like he is herding is few and far between. He’s great in the car and close to being fully housetrained after just a short time. So smart! If you’re looking for a Border Collie to run around on your property who is amazing with people, this is him! We will bring in a trainer and behaviorist if necessary to help him work through years of being pent up in a barn with zero stimulation. He’s just as striking in person. His coat is beautiful!

⭐️⭐️Foster Plea: “Kenny Rogers” purebred Border Collie • 55 lbs • ⭐️⭐️

Kenny is an adoptable 4-year-old Border Collie surrendered by his breeder, as he was no longer needed as a stud. He’s in desperate need of a foster home. Kenny has a history of doing well with other dogs his size. He was intrigued by cats at the clinic and I’m uncertain if would attempt to chase (or try to herd them 😅) if he had the opportunity. He seems to love humans and enjoys being doted on. (This attention thing is new for him. He was at an Amish farm with minimal human interaction unless he was pulled out for a female.)

He bonds quickly and will follow you for direction and guidance. I’m attaching a video I took of him when he arrived to rescue to showcase his personality. He would do best with an active foster or a foster with a fenced-in yard to exert his energy. His personality is true to the breed. High energy but quite the sweetie. Because he’s still learning about this new life, a home setting with no kids under 12 is requested. He gets excited to see humans and jumps up. He may knock down a little human…not intending to hurt them. We are working through this and basic obedience. He was never given the chance to flourish as a beloved family member prior to this and now he’s learning as an adult dog.

Kenny is scheduled to be neutered this Tuesday, 3/12, at Animal Veterinary Center in Bear, DE. His current foster can no longer keep him at her home. Please submit a foster app ASAP if you can foster Kenny, even as a 10-day emergency starting this Tuesday afternoon / eve. We will provide a crate, supplies and cover all medical costs. Post-surgery, he will be limited in his activity for proper recovery. He may sleep quite a bit on the first day with you. He will be discharged with a plastic e-collar and anti-inflammatory pain meds prescribed for 5 days – give with breakfast and dinner.

Even a finished basement would work great as a space to let him recover. We are unable to put him in boarding after he has surgery. As a result, we are casting the net with this urgent plea for help, even if just as an emergency commitment of 10 days. If you have questions, the direct contact for Kenny is [email protected].

In addition to the search for a foster, Kenny is hopeful someone will see this and express interest in adopting him. He is healthy and tested negative for Heartworm, Lyme, Ehrlichia, and Anaplasmosis. He’s current on vaccines and microchipped.

Please consider sharing this plea for foster help so we can find a safe recovery space for him. Email Marie with any questions in case I miss a comment. Thank you! -RM
