DAKOTA IS NOW PENDING ADOPTION!

PLEASE NOTE:  Fosters have 14 days to decide if they wish to “foster fail” and adopt their foster dog.

Welcome Dakota – low key companion, snack enthusiast! Dakota, who goes by Kota, is a 15 lb., 10-year-old, female  Shih Tzu/Jack Russell mix with a quiet, easygoing nature. She came to rescue as an owner surrender and is now looking for a soft place to land for her next chapter.

Kota enjoys slow, short walks (no more than half a mile) and she’ll let you know when she’s had enough—sometimes by no longer walking and requesting a lift home.

She’s a professional napper who enjoys a good snooze throughout the day. At night, she happily sleeps downstairs in her crate—with the door open. She likes having her own cozy space but prefers not to feel “closed in.”

Kota is house-trained, sheds just a little, and is very food motivated—which may also explain why she likes to follow her people around (for companionship, and possibly snacks). She hasn’t quite mastered commands like “sit” yet, but her love of treats makes her a great candidate for gentle, positive training.

She’s taking a little time to warm up, but she’s been a very easy houseguest. She coexists nicely with her foster’s resident dog, hasn’t shown any barking so far, and does well for baths, grooming, and nail trims. Kota is a bit cautious on stairs and hasn’t quite figured out jumping up onto the couch yet—but she can jump down.

Kota would do best in a calm, adult home (no young children) with someone who appreciates a quieter, lower-energy companion and is happy to let her settle in at her own pace.

She is spayed and up to date on her shots. She hasn’t been to the vet yet with her foster, but more updates will be shared as we learn more about her.

Kota may not demand the spotlight—but if you’re looking for a sweet, low-key companion (with a soft spot for snacks), she just might be your girl.
