PLEASE NOTE: Fosters have 14 days to decide if they wish to “foster fail” and adopt their foster dog.
Say hi to Buccaneers, or Bucky for short! Bucky is a 3 year old, 14 lb., male Poodle mix & puppy mill survivor who came to Renee’s Rescues in the second round of Project Chesapeake. He is currently acting like many puppy mill survivors and is shy around humans, not house trained, having never really had the chance to be a dog before. As he decompresses in a foster home, he is starting to show little bits of personality and with some patience and lots of love will be a great companion one day. He enjoys sitting on his foster’s lap for short periods of time and sleeping on the bed at night. Bucky loves going for walks and sniffing his way around the neighborhood. Even though he likes to keep his distance from resident human, he does want to be in the same room as them and will even howl if left alone elsewhere in the house. He is slowly learning how to accept affection, and even when nervous has not proven to have a mean bone in his body.
Bucky has no problems living with either dogs (any size) or cats, and would probably do best in a home with at least one other canine companion who can help guide him. He hasn’t been around children, but would do best with ones old enough to understand why he is shy and needs space until he gets used to them. His foster is currently working on house training and leash training with him but he does require a fully fenced yard. He has mastered going up stairs but isn’t too good at going down them yet. Bucky is up to date on vaccines and will be neutered & microchipped prior to adoption.
