Project Chesapeake is a rescue of 23 adult, former puppy mill dogs, saved in conjunction with one of our local shelter partners. Prior to their arrival, these pups had never lived indoors, never had a family of their own and have never received love & affection. Now, they are safely in foster homes learning what being a family member is like. They arrived is various stages of distress, despair & fear. As they decompress & become acclimated to their newfound freedom, they will be ready to find their forever homes. All are requiring a fully fenced yard given that they cannot be leash walked.
Meet Bowie! Bowie is an approx. 18 month old, female Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mix. She is full grown at 10.5 lbs. She’s both dog and cat friendly. Not sure about kids though. Bowie is working on house training but she is already crate trained. She absolutely hates the leash, she does travel really well in the car and her energy level is about 5 out of 10. We think she should have a fenced in yard because of how much she does not like the leash and has not made much progress with this training. Her ideal family would have an another dog playmate to run zoomies with in the yard with her. She’s still learning how to go up and down steps. Bowie is very gentle and calm but still scared after living in a puppy mill. She is up to date on shots and will be spayed & microchipped prior to adoption.
