PLEASE NOTE: Fosters have 14 days to decide if they wish to “foster fail” and adopt their foster dog.
Meet Opie! Opie is an approximately 2 year old, neutered male German Shepherd mix who was found dumped near a home last September with his harness still on. The family took him him – here’s what they had to say about Opie:
He came to us completely shut down, reactive, and terrified of everything except our children. We were advised at the time to hold him as most shelters were overburdened and he would likely do poorly. Since we’ve had him he has received 7 sessions of formal training and he has improved in reactivity and fear. He is house trained, crate trained, and muzzle trained. He goes to the door and barks when he needs to go potty and can be left out of his crate for extended times without supervision. He knows place, sit, down and paw. He is super smart and a quick learner. He absolutely loves our children (6 and 😎 and our 10 year old rescue dog. He does, however, continue to be reactive to new people and cars/bikes. He is ok at vet and in boarding, as he loves other dogs. Per trainer and vet recommendation he is on medication for anxiety/ reactivity. At this time, Opie resides in a separate space from our 10 year old rescue as she was previously attacked and is nervous with other dogs in confined spaces. Outside, they love time together. Because he is in a separate space, he does not get the optimal time for socialization and love he deserves after what we can only assume was a rough first 2 years of life. We want what is best for him and will continue to foster until we find a home that can continue to work with him on reactivity and trusting people. We are willing to assist with medication and be his vacation spot whenever his forever family goes away. He would do best in a home with another dog and a fenced in yard to run and play all day. Opie deserves all love!
